Session 1: Thursday, July 3rd, 7:00-10:00pm
Bridgetown Night Strike 214 W Burnside St, Portland 97209 (Liberation Street Church)
Night Strike is a unique opportunity for people to gather under the Burnside Bridge on the park side of Naito Parkway every Thursday night and love people because people matter. It is an opportunity for members of Portland’s homeless community to hang out, enjoy a hot meal, receive a free haircut, shave, have their feet washed and have their old shoes/clothes/sleeping bags replaced. It is also a chance for you to come down and share in the experience, help serve the needs of the homeless in our community, and more importantly, invest in lives and build relationships with the people you meet.
Here is a link to Night Strike and some more info you may find interesting. If you would like to contribute to the evening, please feel free to bring items from the list here, that will best serve the guests.

The DukeEngage group will be doing a handson project, so come ready to work and have fun! Closed toe shoes required and bring work gloves if you have them. Wear warm clothes as the building is chilly. Some tasks may involve medium to heavy lifting. You'll be joining another Environmental TeamWorks team for this shift, to double the amount we can get done! After the shift, you’re welcome to join the other TeamWorks group at a nearby establishment to discuss the opportunities (and potential barriers) of the reuse culture in Portland.
Session 3: Friday, July 18th, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
Mark storm drains with the Bureau of Environmental Services
Cleveland High School, 2400 SE 26th Ave. Meet at the main door of the school.
Before the combined sewer system was overhauled between 19912011 raw sewage would flow out into the Willamette River about 50 times a year. Through a variety of programs the City of Portland was able to reduce the number of sewage overflow events to around four a year. This has done wonders for the health of the Willamette. However, any waste that is dumped into Portland’s street level storm drains still winds up in the river.
We’ll take to the streets for Bureau of Environmental Services to mark neighborhood storm drains with “No Dumping, Drains to River.” These markers help educate the public and aim to reduce the dumping of hazardous pollutants in drains that eventually discharge into our rivers and streams. We’ll also learn about other initiatives spearheaded by the Bureau of Environmental Services to reduce stormwater runoff and contamination.
Session 4: Friday, July 25th, 2:00pm - 4:00 pm

Arrival: Driving north on Front Ave, turn left onto 61st and drive PAST the main entry (with the stop light). Turn right at the next entry with the flagpoles, and drive past the smaller building on your right to find the small parking lot. You will meet for the tour in the small office building by that parking lot

You’ll find out just that as you take a tour of Metro’s central transfer station, where everything is brought, sorted, and ultimately “dealt with,” whether that means recycled into a new life or left to the landfill.
What to bring: Dress for the weather and wear closed-toed, sturdy shoes (no sandals). Also... bring any questions about the waste processing processing for the City of Portland. The group may not get to walk through the hazardous materials processing zone due to the tour's timing, but if you have questions about that process, you can definitely ask Bob during the tour.
