Bob Healy, DukeEngage Portland Program Faculty Director
Bob Healy is Professor Emeritus of Environmental Policy and Public Policy Study in the Nicholas School of the Environment and the Sanford School of Public Policy. He has been director of Duke’s Center for International Studies and Center for North American Studies and an active member of the Latin American Studies faculty. He has written ten books on land use, national forests, rural land markets, and environmental management in developing countries. Before coming to Duke in 1986, he worked for 16 years at Washington, DC think tanks, including the Urban Institute, Resources for the Future and the Conservation Foundation. He has served on the Board of the Forest History Society, Triangle Land Conservancy, the Durham People’s Alliance, and the New Hope Creek Advisory Committee. He enjoys old books, Mexican graphic art, traveling in Spanish-speaking countries, and nearly all dogs. Like Chaucer’s Oxford clerk, “gladly would he learn, and gladly teach.”

Although I have lived in several states (New York, California, Colorado, and Oregon) I consider Portland to be my home. I moved to Portland in 2006 to attend graduate school and have earned a Master's in Educational Leadership and Policy from Portland State University. Throughout my life I have taught almost every age and subject. Most recently, I taught Introduction to Service-Learning and Civic Engagement at Clark College in Vancouver, Washington. In my free time I enjoy playing on a kickball team, snowboarding, baking, crafting, and attending concerts and music shows.

What's up, I'm Erin from Roanoke, VA. I've lived in the South my whole life (Georgia, Louisiana, now SW VA) but I don't like sweet tea. Lemonade's more my thing. And pizza (with ranch). I'm majoring in biology (no not premed) and perhaps minoring in environmental science and policy - the more time I spend out here, the more it seems that will actually happen. I really like cities, roses, and rain so Portland has been really great to me so far, except for the whole really really hot thing because I don't like that so much. Waterfalls are the best and climbing up them (when possible) is one of my fav things to do.

I am a pinch of this and a pinch of that. My mind wonders too far off lands and speaks on its own accord. My opinions are constantly changing and I am always interested in hearing about others perspectives with the hopes of changing mine. I am falling in love with permaculture design and I hope that I can apply what I learn in Portland to my future career path. I use many creative outlets to document and season my life, such as photography, painting and cooking. I am a high jumper on the Duke Track and Field team and I am studying Earth and Ocean Science. Check out my Flickr page for a more fulfilling and detailed account of my Portland experience. Keep it spicy and eat until you’re full.

Shajuti Hossain
Hello hello! I'm Shajuti (pronounced how it's spelled), but I also respond to Shaj, Shajoots, Shaboots, Shabooty, Beans, The PUNisher and more. My parents are from Bangladesh, I was born in Michigan and I have lived in Raleigh, North Cackalacky since I was five. I love that Duke is only 30 minutes away from home, so I can visit my parents, two of the coolest people on the planet.
I am easily amused (but often hard to please), especially with clever and quirky puns, quotes, and décor. I am most in my element when I'm watching HGTV and doing arts & crafts. At Duke, I'm double majoring in Economics and Public Policy, with a minor in Environmental Science & Policy. When I'm not studying or running from one meeting to another, I love to chill with my friends late into the night, whether it's playing Taboo, singing & laughing on the blue swingy benches, or exploring Durham, any impromptu and low-key hangout with them makes me happy.

Bobby (Xirui) Liu
Hello! I’m Xirui (Bobby), from Beijing, the city famous for the Great Wall and, just recent years, the smog. As a potential Statistics and Economics major, I make friends with numbers and curves. They are my only friends at Duke and I haven’t successfully found any human friends so far. Luckily, I do have things that I’m passionate about other than numbers and curves. In my spare time, I walk around on campus and take my camera with me to take some interesting pictures. As a Chronicle photographer and photo associate, I go to different events and sports games to shoot for the newspaper. I’m honored to be the official photographer in our DE Portland team and now working on a Flickr photo project called “Portland Perspectives” with my roommate Carl. You can access to our Flickr page under the sub-tab “Photo of the Week” in this Weebly blog. Hope you like and share our photos. This is not an ad : )

Elizabeth McGlamry
I'm Elizabeth, an energetic bundle of sarcasm from the streets of Atlanta, GA. If you don't like the word "y'all," sweet tea or frying every food in sight I suggest you stay as far away from me as possible. Some of my hobbies include Amish-style quilting, watching Netflix and whittling. When I'm not working on my History/Psychology double major at Duke University, I am meticulously planning out my next meal (food=life). I love Duke because of the beautiful, gothic architecture. Likes: socks, dogs, mountains, crafting, the Daily Show, gluten and animals in human clothes. Dislikes: people who don't use their turn signal, sushi, slow internet, flat tires and humans in animal clothes. Ambivalent about: slugs, arm wrestling and Whole Foods.

Kyrstin Lulow
Hey there, I'm Kyrstin all the way from Altamonte Springs, Florida- basically the suburban sprawl around Orlando. Growing up in a vacation destination definitely led to some interesting perspectives: water parks were a weekend activity (all year, not just in summer!), every birthday party was a pool party, and I know the ins and outs of Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure. And for the record, Disney World was an over-rated childhood wonderland of 100% humidity and over-priced Mouse trinkets. I'm not bitter..
Anyhoo, I'm a biology major, ecology concentration, environmental science & policy minor, and basically my career goal is to become the Lorax (but maybe without the mustache). I love anything to do with the "wild" and want to explore the Great Outdoors. I'm a child of the sun who finds peace in nature, and hope to share my passion and inspire others. Fun fact: I've swam with stingrays, caught a shark, pet alligators, eaten crocodile, and played with wallabies.

Annie Maass
I'm Annie, hailing all the way from the Dirty Jerz on the East Coast. No, I don't have an accent, and no, I have never met anyone from the show Jersey Shore. At Duke, I am majoring in Public Policy and minoring in Environmental Science and Policy. When I'm not studying, you can find me on the lacrosse field with the Duke Women's Club Lacrosse team, chatting on the swinging benches, or in line at the crepe truck. Someday I hope to attend law school and become the next real-life Harvey Specter.
Fun Fact: I've hiked Mount Washington in New Hampshire!
Life goal/ambition: Find the perfect Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich.

Camille Robbins
Hello friends! I’m Camille of Wilmington, NC, and I have three main hobbies: sleeping, watching movies in bed, and taking naps. When I decide to pretend to be a normal human being I sometimes will be found cheerleading in Wally Wade or Cameron, depending on the season. When I go to class they are usually in the Earth and Ocean Sciences field (of which I am technically a major) and Arts of the Moving Image. I have two stuffed animals. They’re both bears: one a basketball player named Blue, and the other a Duke cheerleader named Cameron. And no I do not find that weird. Another fun random fact about me is that my eyes change colors depending on the color shirt I’m wearing and the distance you are away, so I really have no idea what color they actually are. (I like to say they’re green though because that’s my favorite color.)

Alexa Romersa
I’m Alexa, born and raised on the mighty shores of landlocked Tennessee in the great city of NashVega$. Despite Hayden Panettiere's best efforts to convince the nation otherwise, not every gal in Nashville wears cowboy boots and has bleached hair with an albedo of .99. However, I do enjoy some singular southern comforts when I'm at home, including desegregated water fountains and eccentric grandmothers. While Nashville will always be my hometown, I have found another home at Duke, where I am pursuing a BS degree in Environmental Science, a Literature minor, and as of 10:13 am this morning, a certificate in Marine Conservation and Leadership. Oceans are my weakness. It's not my fault that looking at pictures of giant squid and sperm whales locked in a desperate battle for life and death fills my heart with joy. When I'm not doing brainy things, you can find me climbing, running up hills, and wearing mismatched socks while playing on the Duke Women's Ultimate Frisbee team. I become irate and highly volatile when people tell me frisbee is something they play with their dogs. I've also been spotted curled up with post-apocalyptic fiction novels featuring dominant female characters, anything written by Barbara Kingsolver, and ocean adventure memoirs. I will always love my sister and miss my cats.

Victoria Lim Zhen Yi
Hi all! I'm from the humble city-state of Singapore, a tiny island in Southeast Asia. I am majoring in Economics and am enjoying connecting what I have learnt in the classroom with my observations in Portland. Portland has been amazing so far, and I appreciate both its great natural beauty and its willingness to embrace new ideas and people. I look forward to learning about how conservation is organized and managed by the network of non profits operating in the city, and contributing to their efforts as well. In my spare time, I love watching films and trying new food (of which Portland has a lot to offer!).
